Accreta Memorial:

Megan Holmes

In Memory of an Accreta MoM

Special thanks to Carol Golembiewski, Megan’s mother, for opening her heart to share Megan’s story with our community.

Megan Holmes passed away on September 13, 2024 at the age of 31 after giving birth to her second son. Megan’s sudden passing leaves a profound void for her husband Billy, her two precious boys, Beckett and Henry, as well as for her parents, brothers, extended family, and many friends and colleagues.

Though her first delivery was somewhat challenging, there were no red flags raised for her second pregnancy, and she was cleared by a specialist for her second delivery. Megan was joyfully optimistic heading into her planned C-section, eager to meet her new son, Henry.

After delivery, Megan experienced severe hemorrhage, associated with the pregnancy complication placenta accreta spectrum. Her physicians ultimately performed a hysterectomy, but by the time that procedure was performed, it was too late to save Megan.

“She sprinkles glitter wherever she goes.”

Megan was a radiant mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend who was intentional about making everyone around her feel truly special and loved. Adored by her family since childhood, they describe her as the "glue" that held them together, and as a genuinely beautiful person inside and out. She spoke to her mother everyday and made her family the center of her world.

She spoke to her mother everyday and made her family the center of her world.

Megan loved to travel and she loved people. She was an organizing wizard who delighted in creating a warm and loving home for her family, and she was overwhelmed with happiness at the thought of growing that family. Megan also loved her career as a nurse, but her ultimate pride and joy was her role as a wife and mother to her sons.

By sharing her story, her family hopes to bring urgent attention to the life-altering impact of Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS) and honor Megan’s legacy of boundless love, warmth, and joy, which will continue to shine brightly through everyone lucky enough to have known her.
