What are the nine POST-BIRTH warning signs?

August 17, 2017

NPR and ProPublica reported on a study published Tuesday in MCN: The American Journal of Maternal/Child Nursing that identified areas of opportunity for patient education by postpartum nurses on nine warning signs of which new moms and their loved ones should be aware.

Developed by Dr. Patricia Suplee, Dr. Debra Bingham, Anne Santa-Donato, and Lisa Kleppel and published by AWHONN in the Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic, and Neonatal Nursing (JOGNN), Nursing for Women’s Health, and Healthy Mom & Baby, the acronym POST-BIRTH is a way for nurses, new moms, partners, family members and friends to identify problems in the hours, days, weeks and months after giving birth.
